Breast pumps FAQs
What is the best resource for choosing breast
pumps?
Opinions of other breastfeeding mothers are usually the best review
available. Don’t base your purchase on just one other mom’s
opinion, though. Ask several mothers and lactation experts, if possible.
A breast pump is a pricey purchase and they are not returnable or exchangeable.
What supplies are necessary for breastfeeding my baby?
Just you and your baby – breastfeeding is a natural thing. You
need lactating breasts and a suckling infant. If you choose to pump,
you will need to purchase a pump and breast milk storage containers
or bags. Many moms who nurse, but do not pump often, gather the things
that they may need while breastfeeding, such as burp cloths, diapers,
wipes, a drink for mom and their phone. This allows them to relax while
they breastfeed.
What is the most important piece of clothing for new nursing
mother?
A good nursing bra can make all the difference. Make sure that it fits
properly and has convenient openings for nursing. Most often these are
facilitated with flip down cups that adhere to the straps with plastic
clasps or hooks. Many lactation experts advise against underwire, as
it can press down on milk ducts and clog them.
