Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is the best nutrition a baby can get. Mother’s
milk is full of immune-boosting antibodies and is formulated perfectly
for a human infant. Formula is often formulated from cow’s milk,
which is not ideally suited for human offspring. While formula is getting
better and better with each change, it will never be as good as breast
milk is for babies. For babies born prematurely or with special needs,
breast milk is so important. Many NICU nurses refer to it as “liquid
gold” because it is so helpful for babies to grow and progress.
Babies that are breastfed are sick less and they have less ear infections.
Statistically, breastfed babies have lower rates of Sudden Infant Death
Syndrome than formula fed babies. Studies also show that breastfeeding
babies have higher intelligence than formula fed babies.
Breastfeeding protects both mother and child from various cancers.
Breastfeeding can help a new mom regulate blood sugars. It is also beneficial
in the post partum period because breastfeeding causes the uterus to
contract, thus helping to avoid dangerous hemorrhaging. Breast fed babies
are less likely to have childhood obesity than are formula fed babies.
Breast milk is the prefect food for babies and breastfeeding is good
for both mom and baby.
